Tahoe Backcountry Ski Patrol(TBSP) have been working to create a Tahoe Backcountry Radio Program. The program would allow recreational users (with a focus on skiers) in the same connected terrain to have access to and use common FRS radio channel(s) to communicate about avalanche conditions, coordinate travel in complex terrain and render aid in event of emergency.
We are modeling the program after programs in Telluride, Snoqualamie Pass and the Wasatch in Utah. We plan to work with the Sierra Avalanche Center (SAC) and Tahoe Backcountry Alliance(TBA) local organizations to link to TBSP hosted information and promote the program through their publicity efforts.
Topics we’d like your input on include:
- Geographic break points for specific Zones.
- Radio Frequencies to use in each zone.
- Best-practices for radio use.
- Plan Implementation for public use.
We would love to get your inputs and insights. We need your help getting the word out and modelling good radio use.
We are soliciting feedback on the proposed backcountry zone boundaries and channels. Link to open in Caltopo.
